Marianne’s Diary: May-8
Black smoke and rainbow meetings

This morning’s vote resulted in more black smoke. I was standing below the balcony where the new Pope will appear. Among today’s highlights was meeting a gay male couple from Milan, Rosario and Alessandro. Alessandro is a volunteer with Progetto Gionata, which is helping to organize the LGBTQ Jubilee pilgrimage in September. He is a former seminarian and shared his experience of being forced into conversion therapy. We exchanged our hopes for the next Pope

I also spoke with a journalist from Brazil Terra, who spotted my rainbow flag and asked for an interview. (Not for publication: she identified herself as a bisexual Catholic and wants to connect with our Brazilian members. I showed her our website and regional member listings.)
The next round of voting begins at 4:00 PM Rome time.
