Recent public discussion in Spain has again shown how words about LGBT+ people can create distance within the Church. GNRC stands with CRISMHOM in its invitation to encounter, dialogue and discernment with LGBT+ Catholics, their families and their communities.
At GNRC’s 2025 Assembly in Madrid, Cardinal José Cobo, Archbishop of Madrid, called for a Church that listens, keeps its doors open and walks with respect, compassion and care. He asked Christian communities to foster dialogue, accompaniment and concrete inclusion, placing each person and their dignity at the centre.
Pope Leo XIV has said that each person is invited into the Church as a son or daughter of God, and that Catholics should get to know and respect one another. He has also said that the unity or division of the Church should not revolve around sexual matters, directing attention towards justice, equality and freedom.
GNRC will continue seeking dialogue with bishops and Church leaders. We believe that meeting people, hearing their faith journeys and speaking with care can build understanding. We remain present within the Church, ready to listen, share and walk together.
