What can twenty years of walking alongside LGBTQ+ people teach us about faith, the Church, and the meaning of Christian welcome?

This Saturday, October 24, the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics (GNRC) welcomes Fr. Luís Corrêa Lima, S.J., from Brazil, for a special conversation reflecting on two decades of pastoral ministry.

A Jesuit priest, historian, and professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Fr. Luís has dedicated much of his work to exploring the relationship between Catholic theology, sexual diversity, and the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people.

His contribution goes far beyond academic reflection. He has helped develop spaces for LGBTQ+ Catholics in Brazil, supported dialogue between faith communities and those often left at their margins, and explored how the Church can respond to contemporary realities without losing sight of its spiritual mission.

At the heart of his work lies an important question: How can the Church truly listen to people whose lives and experiences challenge its familiar ways of thinking?

For Fr. Luís, pastoral ministry is not simply about welcoming people into existing structures. It is also about allowing encounters to inform theological reflection, recognizing the dignity of each person, and discovering how faith can become a source of belonging rather than exclusion.

His experience also invites us to reflect on the changes within the Catholic Church over the past twenty years, from local pastoral initiatives in Brazil to the wider conversations on synodality, conscience, and inclusion.

What has changed? What remains difficult? And what have LGBTQ+ Catholics themselves taught the Church along the way?

Join us for a conversation grounded in experience, theological reflection, and the patient work of building relationships.
